Kawartha Lakes gardening has its many challenges. After 8 years of many trials growing and testing gardening plants and materials in this area, we give you advice and a few tips to be aware of.

Tip 1 - Purchase plants for the right zone.

The Kawartha Lakes winters can be harsh and extreme. Some years we may not get the snow coverage that would protect your plants from freezing and dying.

According to the gardening zoning map, the Kawarthas gardening zone is 5a, but after many trials of gardening plants and material, we advice you is to purchase your garden plant material for zone 4.

Tip 2 - Purchase plants grown for this zone.

Because of our harsh winters, we suggest you purchase plant materials that are locally grown for the Kawartha Lakes

Many garden plants are grown south and delivered here in the early season. The growers in the south begin their growing season early and by the time the plants arrive in our area, the plants are in a state of shock.

Your locally grown purchased plants will be able to continue to be stronger and grow for the rest of the season. It will continue on to survive a harsh Kawartha Lakes winter as apposed to purchasing plants that are delivered from the south.

Tip 3 - Plant the right gardening plants in the right areas and you will have a beautiful garden.
