HAIRSPRAY the Musical
Hairspray, Broadway's musical comedy phenomenon that
inspired a major motion picture is coming to the Peterborough
Memorial Centre for 1 night only.
Live Music:
The Kawartha Jazz Ensemble presents a Toast to Broadway at 8 p.m. at Showplace Peterborough (290 George St. N., Peterborough). Featuring Broadway hits from a century of Showbiz on the Great White Way, with vocals by Danny Bronson, Beau Dixon, Lisa Devan and Brooke Turney. From Irving Berlin to Andrew Lloyd Webber; from Night and Day to All That Jazz; as well as the 'Show Business Trivia' that surrounds the best pop music ever written. Concert:
Africville Productions presents Mutabaruka & co -- Celebrate Black History Month from 7 p.m. - midnight at Market Hall (336 George St. N., Peterborough). This third annual Black History month celebration will feature live and direct from Kingston Jamaica Mutabaruka backed by Mixed Emotions also featuring Klyde Broox and Peterborough's own The Resolutionaries Marimba Band. Tickets are adults $15, students $20.
Concert:
The Kawartha Jazz Ensemble presents A Toast To Broadway by Beth McMaster from 8 - 10 p.m. at Showplace Peterborough (290 George St. N., Peterborough). Come to an evening of music and song with Royce Williamson’s Kawartha Jazz Ensemble and vocalists Dan Bronson, Beau Dixon, Lisa Devan & Brooke Turney performing the best from Broadway’s past 100 years. Dance:
Dance Your Bones hosts Dance like no one's watching from 7 - 9 p.m. at St. John's Anglican Church (99 Brock St., Peterborough). In the Guild Hall- enter from the Hunter St. side. Shake off the winter blahs with a free-style dance session to world beat and eclectic tunes. Tickets are $5-10. For more information call (705) 295-5558.
Dinnertainment:
Jamaican Self-Help, Kawartha World Issues Centre and The New Canadians' Centre host a One World Dinner from 6 - 10 p.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (Murray & Water Sts., Peterborough). Bring the whole family to this International Vegetarian Potluck Dinner with a dessert auction and raffle. Please bring a vegetarian dish with ingredient list (no desserts) and dish pack. Concert:
The Lindsay Concert Foundation presents Chopin & Schumann at 200 from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Glenn Crombie Theatre (200 Albert St. South, Lindsay). You are invited to this annual fundraising concert with Music Director Gael Morrison, featuring guest professional artists Brian Finley - piano, Donna Bennett - soprano and guest performers Ev Brooks -bass baritone, Tim Crouch - flutist, Catherine Nicholls - Soprano and Anna Karpazis - percussion. Workshop: The Art Gallery of Peterborough presents Yarnstorm from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Peterborough (250 Crescent St., Peterborough). The whole family is invited to share in the love of all things with string - Knit, crochet, braid and learn to tie knots. Bring yarn and your creativity! Live Music: Showplace presents Kevin Fox at 8 p.m. at Showplace Peterborough (290 George St. N., Peterborough). Halifax native Kevin Fox is a revered multi-instrumentalist, sought-after arranger/composer and recording artist, and has been dubbed ‘Canada’s most ubiquitous side-man’. Now, three years after the release of his debut album Come Alive, Kevin returns to his exceptional talents as a singer-songwriter with the much-anticipated release of Songs for Cello and Voice. Live Music: The Showplace Jazz Club presents Joe Sealy & Paul Novotny at 8 p.m. at Showplace Peterborough (290 George St. N., Peterborough). Long-time Peterborough favourites, Joel Sealy (piano) and Paul Novotny (bass) have performed three concerts since 1991 for the Kawartha Jazz Society; and with their quartet, were headliners at the Festival of Lights. This will be a special Valentine's weekend acoustic performance and CD Release event. Joe and Paul's extraordinary musical sympatico comes from a musical partnership that dates back to 1981.
