An incredible cold windstorm blew from Bobcaygeon across the lake creating the water to freeze on the rocky island in an instant.
The water underneath was then drained via the Trent Canal System, leaving the ice built up hollow underneath.

In all our years walking on the lake, we have never come across anything like this. These ice formations were created by all the right ingredients and good timing.

Our niece and nephew thought this was cool as well.

As we walked by Snake Island 2 snowmobiles raced across the lake into the narrows towards Little Bald Lake.

We followed the snowmobiles, but as we approached the other side of the island, the snowmobiles were nowhere to be seen. Just then we could see our father approaching us on cross-country skis and within an instant our nephew ran to him.

As we turned to head home and faced the Bobcaygon direction, we saw that the sun was setting. When this happens, the sky and our surroundings become pitch black, making it harder to find home base.

Just before the sun set, our home base was in site. The ice formations are no longer on Snake Island, but who knows, what we will find on our next lake adventure.
