Take caution during the black bears hunting season in the Kawartha Lakes region. There are many dump sites that attract black bears making them an easy target. It is illegal to hunt black bears within 400 m (437 yd.) of any waste disposal site, regardless of whether the land is Crown or private.

It is also illegal to shoot or interfere with black bears in their dens, or damage or destroy their dens.
